Shower Favors!!

November 28, 2007

I volunteered to make the favors for my sister-in-law’s Baby Shower…

I always love doing “all things crafty”, which made me even more excited to think up a fun shower favor. However, I refuse to make smelly soap, baby bottles filled with candy, or tie a ribbon around a scented candle from the dollar store. Why spend money on a bunch of junk, when you can make something fun and creative with the same amount of cash? So,… after searching online and wasting countless hours looking at cheesy Baby Shower favor ideas online, I came upon a Martha Stewart article that sparked my idea for a favor (which I cannot now, for the life of me, find on her website!).

It’s a mixture of the Martha Stewart idea and a project we did in one of my Elementary Art Classes at S.D. State.

In all, I only spent about $30 at Michael’s Craft Store for this entire project!! This includes 5 personalized stationary cards and envelopes and a personalized stamp for each guest (a total of 14 guests attended), along with all of the necessary ingredients to make your craft:

Glue Stick, Elmer’s Glue, thin sheet of Styrofoam, Acrylic Paints of your choice, Sharpie, Scissors, Paint Roller, Foam Paper, and Stationary.

First, let’s make the stamp,…

First, draw the first letter, of each of the guest names, on individual pieces of foam. You could also download a font online and trace, if you like.

Then, cut each letter out.

It should look something like this when you are done.

Then, continue to cut out each of the letters until they are all done.

Now we need to glue the letter onto the Styrofoam sheet…

Carefully, glue the thin foam letter on the Styrofoam with Elmer’s glue. Press the letter down with finger and let dry.

Then, cut around the letter with a knife, to make a neat rectangular stamp.

It should look like this when you are done…

Let your stamp dry for, at least, a couple of hours before stamping…

Now, onto the stamping!!

The Stamping part is pretty easy. All you need is a paper plate, acrylic paint, and your foam roller.

Squirt your desired amount (not too much!) onto the paper plate, roll your foam roller into the paint, then roll the paint filled roller onto your foam stamp.

Then, gently press your stamp onto the card stock of your choice. I chose to stamp my letter on a separate piece of paper before gluing it onto the stationary.

After your stamped letters dry (it only takes about 10 minutes or so), trim your stamped letters to the sized rectangle you like.

Then, begin to glue them onto your card stock.

Make sure to put on enough glue!

Then, stick your stamped letter on your card stock, making sure to get it in the center and even.

So pretty!!

Continue to stick all of your stamped letters on until they are all glued.

After you have finished gluing all your little stamped, lettered friends, the fun part begins!

Presentation,….presentation!!

Since these were shower favors, I thought about what would look the nicest when arranging them at the place settings for all of the shower attendees. I decided on a delicate, light green ribbon to tie them together.

I thought it seemed nice.

Perfect!!

CAUTION: Massive quantities of personalized stationary!!

In the end, I couldn’t decide how to incorporate the stamp.

So, I went with the whole, tucking under the ribbon, thing…

Voila!!

Now, go make some personalized stationary for the people you love!!!
