Dear Pioneer Woman,…

January 16, 2008

Dear Pioneer Woman,

I like your website. I like your cooking. I like to write about your website. And, I definitely like to tell all my friends about your website. I do believe you would benefit greatly from me. Maybe you should highlight my new website on your website and tell all your readers to check me out! Or, maybe you could just hire me to advertise for you,…I’m sure we could work something out.

I know I’m trying to get people to read my website regularly, but I just can’t help but tell everyone about your witty writing, gorgeous photography, and delicious recipes

Let me know when you’re ready to work out a deal.

Sincerely,

Lydia (from my cozy corner)

P.S.- Your Chocolate Sheet Cake is Divine.

A Dessert Night

January 15, 2008

The other night, J and I had a few friends over to help celebrate our recent birthdays. I love any excuse to have others over,   simply because its an excuse to make fun and delicious desserts. The boys had a great time playing Rock Band (J’s request, of course) and while the girls enjoyed eating many sweets. img_7138.jpg Madeleine Cookies (A post about these will be coming soon) img_7150.jpgBlackberry Pie.

I asked J, if he could choose from any dessert in the world, what would he want me to make for his birthday. He chose Olallieberry Pie. Olallieberries, you ask? Yes, I didn’t even know how to pronounce the word. Just so you now know, it is pronounced, “oh-la-leh-berry”. Was my littly hubby trying to be difficult? He he,… yes, I do believe so, but isn’t he so cute?! I mean, what man even knows that there are different types of berries within the blackberry family, besides just plain, old blackberries. After much teasing and prodding directed at J, from myself, he sent me this chart to prove his point. He he he…. After looking at this again, I do believe I’m still confused. Is an olallieberry from the blackberry family or the marionberry family? Or both? Or does the marionberry originate from the blackberry and raspberry family? *sigh*… can anyone help me out with this?

Needless to say, Olallieberries aren’t really in season, must less blackberries. But, the blackberries were somewhat still available. And I wanted to make my sweet husband happy. So, I made the pie, but it was a VERY expensive pie. And not olallieberry pie, but close to it. And, it was worth it. And, it was yummy. So, there…(A post about this will probably be coming soon, also!) img_7157.jpgAnd,….da-da-da-dum!!!  Pioneer Woman’s Best Chocolate Sheet Cake Ever!!

And, my oh my, was it delicious…and, it made a ton!!!img_7154.jpg Look at that chocolately goodness.

Everyone had a little doggy-dessert bag to take home with them that night… because, lets just say, it was NOT safe keeping this in our house.  img_7165.jpgIf you do plan on making this, eat it an enjoy! But, I’m just warning you, it’s even MORE delicious after it has sat in the fridge all night and is nice and cold!!

Don’t tell anyone, but I had it for breakfast the next morning!

Guess what’s in these boxes…

January 12, 2008

Can you guess what are in these little boxes? img_7042.jpgMy first ever, genuinely real sale from my Etsy site.

Ok,… well,… to be completely honest, it was a sale that just happened to be from my one of my most specials friends mothers that I love dearly.

But it was still a real, valid sale. Pay Pal went through and I got paid for it. Real, actual, genuine, cold, hard cash!!

Aren’t you excited for me?! Hee hee,…When the notification email from Etsy arrived in my mailbox,… a shot of excitement went up my spine. I was legit. I was an Etsy business woman. I was a crafty-crafter of little Christmas ornaments (even though Christmas has passed). Wow,…amazing.  img_7020.jpgSo I got to work and made my precious friends mothers ornaments. Since our Christmas tree is down, I had to hang them on our wreath from our front door to take pictures of them, but it worked just fine. img_7028.jpg (2) Nativitiesimg_7021.jpg (1) Frosty the Snowmanimg_7024.jpg And (1) extra bonus  Christmas Tree, on me,…just because.

See, if you buy ornaments from me, I will hook you up. Maybe you should go purchase one,…hmmmm,…what do ‘ya think? :)   img_7037.jpgI carefully packaged them in little boxes,…  img_7047.jpgTied some pretty ribbon around them, and of course, added a “Lydia’s Cozy Corner” label to each box (I felt like a kid again, playing “store”) img_7044.jpg And packaged them up for shipping.

Hooooray! Thanks for checking out my site!!

Now maybe you should start your Christmas shopping a little early this year,…*hint, *hint :) .

Banana Bread with Chocolate Chips

January 10, 2008

I love bananas. I love chocolate chips. I banana bread with chocolate chips.

I truly believe I already have the best, ever, banana bread recipe, given to me by my sweet friend, C. By accident she added two sticks of butter instead of one. After that day, she never changed the mistake… I’m living proof of that mistake… the bathroom scale tells me so. But, it’s good… really good.

I can never resist trying out new recipes though… especially recipes that involve bananas and chocolate chips.  img_6190.jpg So, the other day, I tried out two of blogger, Orangette’s banana bread recipes, “Glenn’s Banana Bread with Chocolate Chips and Candied Ginger” and “Banana Bread with Chocolate and Cinnamon and Sugar”. I thought they sounded different and adventurous, so I thought I’d give them a go. img_6194.jpg Although the ginger was fun to add, I felt like I may have put in too much… it was a bit overpowering.img_6202.jpg However, even thought it looks a little funkier, the  Cinnamon and Sugar recipe, was delish… I loved it and would totally make it again!

Anyone have any prized banana bread recipes they’d like to share?

Lydia’s Pen and Paper

January 7, 2008

As many of you know, I finished my undergrad almost a year ago (finally!). I know it takes some time to “figure out” what one chooses to do after they graduate and I know it’s “different strokes for different folks”, but as for me,… well,… it’s taken me some time to figure out what I’d like to do with my life… at least for now.

I graduated, planning to eventually go on to become a teacher. What I didn’t originally plan for was becoming a teacher in California. Growing up on the East Coast and attending my first year of school at a small private college on a mountain, didn’t prepare me for what was to come on the West Coast (I won’t get into all the details today of how I, ironically, came to end up in California). The frustrating thing about teaching in California is that you can’t just go to college for  4 years, do your student teaching the last year of your undergrad, take your tests, and then start teaching fresh out of college. Noooo,… in California they must make it very complicated.  Being burnt out, and feeling like it took forever to simply finish my undergrad,  made me not want to start another full year of student teaching during the day and intense classes at night. I was done. I needed a break. I didn’t want to look at school again for a while.img_6898.jpg Which is why, for some time now, I have had no clue what I should do for my “career” after college. Many times, I have felt frustrated, without purpose, and helpless… ha! But, you know what, I am thankful for this experience. Not knowing what I want to do has forced me to think of what I would reallllly want to do, if I had the choice.  I have always loved art. I have always loved doing “creative” things. But, I have never felt so extremely skilled that I could pursue it as a way of life. But, having time to think has challenged me. I may not be the next Picasso or Martha Stewart, but if I can do what I love for a job, I’m going to go for it. img_6895.jpgWhich is why,… after this long rant, I would like to introduce you to the beginnings of “Lydia’s Pen and Paper”. The website is not even up yet, but I thought I’d at least begin to tell everyone about it. I have no clue where it will go. I have no idea if people will like it. I have no clue if it will all be a flop. But, I’m trying it.  It’s in the beginning stages,… but I’ve been working hard the past few days to get some stuff together. Working on business cards,… a website,… written samples of my work. It’s getting there. I’m having fun and I’m liking what I’m doing. And, thats got to be worth something, right?   img_6890.jpgIn the future, Lydia’s Pen and Paper will offer customized invitations and hand written invitations, placecards, announcements, correspondence cards, etc. with your choice of my personalized calligraphy styles.  In the next few weeks, I’ll be adding examples of my customized invitations, announcements, placecards, and calligraphy styles to be viewed online.   img_6903.jpgSo,…tell all your friends about it!  And, let me know what you think!
