Support Caroline Santa!!!

February 24, 2008

Hi all,

Today I am writing a post to tell you about my dear friend Caroline. She is one of my oldest friends and I treasure her greatly.

This is a picture of us in Hollywood a few years ago. There is a long story to this picture, that must be saved for a later time! This is the oldest picture I could find, that I have out on the west coast. The classic, fifth grade pictures are at my parents house on the east coast and must be dug out when I travel there next!!

I still remember my first interaction with her. We were in fifth grade. I was new to Wilmington Christian School and didn’t know anyone. Shy and nervous, it was the first day of school. We were on the playground. I still remember what I wore that first day of school,… these sweet, pink and green plaid shorts and a white, pocket t-shirt. Remember the pocket T’s? I thought it was THE coolest outfit. But, back to Cara…she had a pretty hot hat on, herself… if I remember right (which I know I do,..HA!) it was a purple and teal Disney, Aladdin Hat. I think it had the Genie on the front,…or something like that. Cara–hope I haven’t embarrassed you.

With her big, pimpin Aladdin hat on, sweet Caroline approached me on the playground and was like,…

“Hi, your Grandparent’s go to my church.”

and I was like, “Yeah,… they do”

and she was like, “You want to play four-square?”

and I was like, “Sure”.

And, from then on sweet Cara and Little Lyd were best friends. We did many things together like bake oatmeal raisin cookies and eat waffles in her bed that her mom made for us in the mornings. We also recorded our very own commercials and talk shows on her tape player up in her bedroom. I still wonder where those cassette tapes went…. we watched TGIF on friday nights and dressed up in different outfits and took pictures of eachother in them. We drew flowers on the rubber soles of our converse shoes and borrowed each others clothes like crazy.

Ahhh,… those days. They were wonderful. And now, Caroline and I are all grown up (well maybe a little bit grown up). Johanna, the blondie, joined us in seventh grade. She was short and we were tall. She walked between the two tall brunettes, down the school hallway, and everyone looked.

And today, Caroline is an artist. An amazing artist, at that. She’s going to be crazy, famous someday and I’m going to be like,… “Yeah, she’s pretty much my best friend, we used to play four square together and stuff” and people are going to be like….”Wow,….your so cool…” Uh huh,….something like that. You know.

So, the point of this post is to promo the amazing Caroline Santa and tell you to BUY HER ARTWORK NOW while its still cheap,….cause once she gets famous it’s gonna be a fortune and you’re going to be so sad you didn’t buy it while you could.

You can buy some of her older stuff on her Etsy Site or you can also visit her website and look at more of her recent work.

I’ve checked out her Etsy site and am trying to decide between this one…

A busy weekend…

February 20, 2008

J and I had quite a busy weekend… and I feel like things haven’t slowed down since!!

We went up to visit his family and take part in our niece’s dedication this Sunday. It was so great to see family, especially since all the family from all parts of the country were able to travel into town to be together!! Lots of hanging out, laughter, and TONS of food.

Along with a ton of CUTE, Baby Gap clothes, I made a homemade card for our niece’s dedication with Numbers 6:24 written on the front.

I think this verse is so beautiful,…

And, I think this card is so cute!!

In the near future, I hope to add a section on my Pen and Paper site for stationary. But, for now,… I’m going to have to stick to finishing up my future sister-in-laws wedding invitations!! Note to self: Invitations must be sent out in the mail by Monday, February 25… must get working!!

Muffins, Omelettes, Hot Tamales, and Xbox

February 16, 2008

Happy, day after, Valentine’s Day! I hope you all had a wonderful Valentine’s!

Muffins, Omelette’s, Hot Tamales, and Xbox,…that’s what my Valentine’s Day entailed. Well, part of it at least.

My Valentine’s Day started early…too early I must say!! For some reason I woke up at 5:45 am and could not go back to sleep. I feel like this is becoming some sort of routine for me. But, it did help me get things started early. A few nights ago, J and I were watching Barefoot Contessa on the Food Network. She made Chunky Banana Bran Muffins and an Omelette’s for Two. I decided to use her recipes for our Valentine’s morning breakfast.

That’s where the muffin’s and omelette’s come in.

If you’re looking for some good breakfast recipes, these were great!!

The muffins were moist and delicious,…not the typical sweet muffin I’m used to, but very good!

And the omelet was cool since you just stick it in the oven to bake instead of cooking it on the stove-top. This made for much time saved,…I was able to clean up the kitchen and get everything else ready for breakfast while it baked.

And Xbox and Hot Tamales, you ask?

We stayed pretty mellow for gifts, but I had to make a little happy bag of treats for my husband….

bran-mufin-4.jpg

That included hot tamales and an assortment of other chewy, gummy candies he loves… along with an Xbox game points card. Yes,…that is what he wanted.

Here’s the recap of a conversation we had a week ago.

J: Valentine’s is coming up. What do you want?!

Lydia: Oh,..wow,…it’s Valentine’s already? Eh,…I don’t really care. It feels like we just had Christmas. It doesn’t matter. Lets just go to dinner or something… (blah, blah, blah….)

J: Oh,..ok….

Lydia: Wait! What do you want? Hmmmmm, is this why your asking?

J: I want an Xbox game points card and a throne for my RockBand drum set.

Lydia: Oh, I see you little stinker. That is why you asked!

THE END

So,….as you can see my hubby already knew what he wanted. Since then, sadly, his Rockband drums have broken. We’re waiting on a new set to arrive in the mail any day now. I couldn’t bear to buy him a “throne” as he calls it….(normal non Rockband language for “stool”), if he didn’t have any drums to sit at and play with. So,…I’m suuuuuure he’ll get that soon!

So, in exchange, I bought him his Xbox game points instead.

And, I also carved a heart in onion skin as a decoration for his plate at lunch.

The things you do for love….

Happy Valentine’s Eve!!

February 14, 2008

I know Valentine’s is a Hallmark holiday, but I still love it.

doily.jpg

I love hearts. I love doilies. I love valentines. I love pink and red. I love red hot, cinnamon candy hearts. I love red hot, cinnamon candy hearts smashed in sugar cookies. I love it all. Including my husband.

As I said before, we are watching our friends sweet, little teacup terriers for 10 days. At night we put them in their crate to sleep and then, in the morning, let them out when we wake up. Well, those little stinkers have somehow figured out how to unzip their crate and get out!! The first morning it happened, we thought it was a fluke and figured we must have not zipped it up correctly. The next morning, when they came running to our door, we we’re still a bit baffled. All to say,..it’s happened the past 3 consecutive mornings and we’ve come to terms that we just have two little smart puppies on our hands!! It’s hilarious and so cute! They get so happy in the morning, jumping on our bed and licking our faces,… we can’t find it in our hearts to get upset with them. It’s just so stinking adorable.

Well,…all that to say,….they woke us up again this morning, bright and early, at 7am (I know, I know,..7am isn’t that early, but it’s early to us!!). While J went back to sleep, I decided to stay up and surprise him with some pre-valentine’s day waffles. YUM!

waffles.jpg

We went on a Costco run last weekend and bought a ton of blackberries, blueberries, and ridiculously priced peaches. I think all of those are, technically, out of season but, we live in San Diego,…who in San Diego keeps tabs on “seasons”. Seasons, shmeasons,…it’s summer year-round here!

waffles2.jpg

But,…..LOOK! Yummy,…fluffy delicious waffles…!!! With ridiculously, overpriced berries on top!!!

I must give props to my sweet mother-in-law, though, for buying me the most amazing-ever-belgian waffle maker and waffle recipe book for my birthday!! Thanks Mom R!!

Hope you all have a wonderful Valentine’s Day!!

Business Cards

February 13, 2008

I’ve been working on some business cards for Lydia’s Pen and Paper.

img_7518.jpg

I know I keep saying it, but I love all the little “business-y” aspects of starting up my Lydia’s Pen and Paper…I kind of feel like a little kid again playing “office”. I really do. I like doing all the little tasks. I may not always love doing them, but for now I’m loving it.

And, I’m realizing more and more that I love details.

I first started with the straight edge cards mounted on the straight edge green paper.

img_7519b.jpg

But, then I added the scalloped edge. I think it makes everything look so much more dainty and fun.

img_7522.jpg

I just started working on these, but I feel like they’re unique and eye-catching.

More to come,…I promise!!
