Cool Mom Pick’s Valentine’s Day Contest

January 23, 2010

I’m so excited to be entering a few designs into the Cool Mom Pick’s Valentine’s Day Design Contest! A friend of mine forwarded the Valentine Day contest to me and I couldn’t resist creating a cute, color-your-own-card for kids! Really…. Valentine’s Day EQUALS massive amounts of hearts AND adding hearts to ANYTHING just makes things happy, don’t you think?

Cool Mom’s blog is teaming up with Etsy.com and throwing this contest. The winner has their work posted on Etsy’s site for others to purchase and 100% of all the profits will go towards the Children’s Heart Foundation. Such a great way to use our creative talents for an awesome cause!

No matter if my artwork gets chosen or not, I absolutely LOVED, LOVED creating these designs! I think I may have found a new venture…creating coloring books. How FUN would that be?!?

I plan to post these cards, black & white and color, on my Etsy site in the next couple of days for purchasing. I’ve ordered bright red envelopes to go along with them! I will let you know as soon as they are UP!

So, without rambling on and on,… I’ll get to the good stuff!

“love bugs”

“bee mine”

“you are my cupcake…”

You’re only allowed to add up to 3 designs. The above designs: “lovebugs”, “bee mine”, and “cupcake” are the ones I’m choosing to enter, but here’s another one I did. After many votes, “my valentine” was the design that was omitted, but I do still think it’s pretty cute too!

“my valentine”

So adorable and SO fun!

Joshua

January 21, 2010

Ruby has acquired another potential suitor. He’s a dutchmen. He is a Nederlander. His name is Joshua. Isn’t he handsome??

They’ve become quite the pair,..learning how to grow together, Ruby is always behind Joshua, who is 4 months her senior. She watches him stand, and decides to follow his lead, learning to stand a few days later. He learns how to walk and she decides to copy him, after seeing him take his newly aquired steps. It’s so precious seeing those two together.

They totally know eachother now,… Joshua is constantly pointing to Ruby when he sees her. *Love* So sweet.

He had a birthday this past November and Ruby *asked* me to make him a very special gift. You didn’t know Ruby can talk yet? Oh, yes she can,…she gave me the specifics on his gift and everything.

A star ornament, because he’s a star in her book. And, he didn’t have many ornaments to put on his Christmas tree, since they were all in the Netherlands, afterall.

And stationery,… for Joshua to write letters to his family in Holland.

So sweet,…a cute little gift for a cute little boy!

Mexican and Margaritas!

January 14, 2010

I love the unique and creative ideas people come up with when throwing a party and then their request for an invitation that goes along with the celebration. It’s fun designing an invitation that goes against the grain of your typical, run of the mill, invite. Something unique, something cute, and something festive. Oh, so fun!

A friend of mine emailed me with a request for a festive, non traditional, bridal shower invitation. The request was for a “Mexican and Margarita” design. How cute, I thought. I immediately began thinking of somberos and limes,… how would I incorporate a Mexican themed invitation, yet still make it seem wedding-ish?

A margarita glass, complete with salt along the rim of the cup, and limes mixed with a lacy napkin and a string of pearls. Mexican and margaritas mixed with a touch of wedding flair equals, mission accomplished.

At my friends request, I created a matching registry card to go along with the invitation. I couldn’t get enough of those little lime slices. Such a fun little touch.

This invite was so much fun to create. Thank you, Natalie, for the wonderful and FUN opportunity to create such a unique invite!

More Ornaments… a little late.

January 13, 2010

I am a last minute person. Although, I can’t figure out if this is due to me having too many things on my plate at a time, over committing to activities, being too busy, etc. or if it’s because I’m, plain and simple, last minute. I’ve never been much of a planner, I have a phobia of writing things down in stone. Some think I’m not so bad, others are horrified at how I live. I do believe it goes back to how I was raised. Maybe the fact that I grew up in a family of 7 has something to do with it. You could never set things in stone with 7 people. Too much chaos, too many things going on, my family just took things day by day. I guess it’s all relative to how others perceive life and how they choose to live. I, for one, prefer the laid back mentality and when it’s time to nail down that date on the calendar, I’m ok with it,…usually.

With this is mind, I last minute, decided to put up a few ornaments on my etsy site, just to see what would happen. Like, the month before Christmas. Really. If you’re going to sell Christmas-y things, the month before Christmas probably isn’t the time to go venturing into said business. But shoot, I went for it and, by complete surprise (believe me), I got an order the next day…and then another order a few days later, and then another and another. It was crazy. I was shocked and very honored. People wanted to buy my ornaments.

This is the test of a little annoying picture

I sold a handful of “Couples First Year” ornaments,…the buyer would email me with their requests for the ornament. Colors, Themes, Style,…and then I’d create it for them. I had such a fun time doing it and there were many that turned out simply adorable. I wanted to keep half of them,….even though I had no relationship with the bride and groom. Is it weird I wanted to hang “Couples First Year” ornaments on my tree,….even if I didn’t know them?

So, Christmas has come and gone,…it is now January 12th. And, although the Christmas trees are down and ornaments packed away, I thought I’d make a very last minute post for you,… Lydia style… oh yeah.
