Ruby’s 2nd Birthday: Activities and Favors!

March 24, 2011

Is it pathetic there’s going to be four separate posts for Ruby’s birthday party? Maybe,… but I can’t bring myself to choosing only a few photos! Today’s post,….the activities and favors at the Party!

First up,…the activities…

I found these cute butterfly nets in the dollar bin at target and had to get them for the party.

We ended up borrowing a friends bubble machine and had the kids catch bubbles with their nets in the backyard.

Suprisingly, the kids LOVED it and were entertained for the entire afternoon! And, no eyes were poked out or heads whipped by the nets! Whoo hoo! HA!

I also set up a “pin the antennae on the butterfly” game. I blew up and printed out the same pattern for the butterflies I drew on Ruby’s invitation, cut out some antennae’s and stuck them on Ruby’s easel. It was a cute set up,…but we never even ended up playing the game! Maybe next year?!

A little table with crayons and “happy birthday, Ruby” coloring pages was placed in the patio area for the little artists.

The girls mainly loved them,….but the boys stuck to the nets and catching bubbles.

I also put out a big bucket of sidewalk chalk, which was another simple thing to play with for the mainly toddler crowd!

Happy Birthday, Ruby!

And then the favors…

I had SO much fun with the favors! The dollar store and Target dollar bin was KEY!

They were colorful with a fun little assortment of things inside each bucket. A butterfly suncatcher craft, butterfly sidewalk chalk, pencil, butterfly clip, flower lollipop, ringpop, a pinwheel, and stickers.

Pink butterfly buckets for the girls…

and camo green buckets for the boys!

Such, such fun!

Ruby’s 2nd Birthday: The Food

March 23, 2011

The food…

Of course there were cupcakes for the birthday girl…

We ordered Ruby’s cupcakes from the same local bakery we used for Ruby’s first birthday. Delicious cupcakes, great price, and simply cute.

And then there were the appetizers and kid friendly snacks… I’m sad I didn’t get a photo of the table fully filled with food, but this photo will have to do (thanks for snapping it, Candice!!).

For the kids there were fruit kabobs,…

watermelon butterflies (cut out by my lovely husband with a butterfly cookie cutter!),

butterfly cream cheese sugar cookies (best EVER recipe for sugar cookies,…handed down to me by my mother in law), and an assortment of goldfish crackers, honeywheat pretzel sticks, cheese sticks, pigs in a blanket, and juice boxes (all not pictured). I arranged the cocktails cups for the kids with the pretzels and goldfish, like last year, in little cupcake liners.

For the adults, we had a mixture of appetizers…simple to make, but still delicious!

Pioneer Woman’s jalapeno bacon poppers,… SO GOOD!

Pioneer Woman’s crab dip served with warm toasty bread and pita chips,…

An antipasto platter,…

and a raspberry lemonade punch for ALL!

YUM!

Ruby’s 2nd Birthday: Decorations

March 21, 2011

Our little muffin is no longer one,…she’s growing up and just recently turned two. Since she’s always loved butterflies and chants, “flitter flutter, flitter flutter”, whenever she sees one, we decided to throw her a “flitter flutter” butterfly birthday party. Thankfully I didn’t POP! with baby #2 before the party (my one fear) and everything turned out great!

I wanted to share a few photos of the decorations,…some people may think I’m crazy, but I love, I love, I LOVE! the preparation and work that goes into decor for a party. I had so much fun creating things and hope you enjoy viewing them as well!

Entry sign on front door to party.

Butterflies scattered on entryway mirror,…party favor buckets below (more on those later!).

Ruby is 2! Flower pots and butterflies,..

The decor/dessert food layout.

Birthday banner, flowers, and more butterflies.

Butterfly nets,….

The majority of decorations came from our local dollar store and Michael’s craft store! So much fun to have butterflies on the brain! Hope you enjoyed!!

It’s been so long,..

March 14, 2011

It’s been so long,… I don’t even know where to start.

So much has happened since my last post…

- A 5 week trip to the East Coast

- 2 nieces and a nephew born

- Our first overnight getaway (finally!). Ruby stayed with the grandparents, J and I went to NYC: explored, ate good food, saw a show, slept in.

- Got our fair share of East Coast weather and snow (LOTS of it!)

- Back to So Cal in February

- Trip to Ventura to see family

- Preparing for Baby Boy…sewing curtains, washing blue and green clothing, nesting, nesting, nesting. Less than 3 weeks to go!

- A big girl bed for Ruby

- Ruby turned 2! Party pictures to come!

Can’t wait to share, in photos, the latest things going on! But for now,…I’m starting simple…a cape Ruby and I made for her dress-ups. She is LOVING dressing up and I am LOVING it too!

Meet Super Ruby:

she’s sweet,…

she’s fast…

and she’s got energy like no other!

She’s Super Ruby!

We made this just the other day,…it’s something I’ve been wanting to do for a while and we finally whipped it up one day. Ruby helped me measure and she even sat on my lap as I sewed a bit of it…”up, down, up, down”, she said as the needle sewed away.

So fun to create and SO fun to see her run around in it, exploring as she goes!
