Baby’s First Ornament

February 6, 2010

Christmas is over, but it’s never a bad time to gift parents with an ornament for their newborn babe.

I created this ornament for Ruby before the holidays to celebrate her first Christmas and simply fell in love with it.

I love the delicate design, the wire detail, and embellishment with the glass beads and texture.

It was a fun ornament to make and will be a precious keepsake for years to come.

You can purchase one of these through my etsy site. With your preference of pale blue or pale pink and personalization of name and year, it’s a special gift to give to new parents!

Joshua

January 21, 2010

Ruby has acquired another potential suitor. He’s a dutchmen. He is a Nederlander. His name is Joshua. Isn’t he handsome??

They’ve become quite the pair,..learning how to grow together, Ruby is always behind Joshua, who is 4 months her senior. She watches him stand, and decides to follow his lead, learning to stand a few days later. He learns how to walk and she decides to copy him, after seeing him take his newly aquired steps. It’s so precious seeing those two together.

They totally know eachother now,… Joshua is constantly pointing to Ruby when he sees her. *Love* So sweet.

He had a birthday this past November and Ruby *asked* me to make him a very special gift. You didn’t know Ruby can talk yet? Oh, yes she can,…she gave me the specifics on his gift and everything.

A star ornament, because he’s a star in her book. And, he didn’t have many ornaments to put on his Christmas tree, since they were all in the Netherlands, afterall.

And stationery,… for Joshua to write letters to his family in Holland.

So sweet,…a cute little gift for a cute little boy!

More Ornaments… a little late.

I am a last minute person. Although, I can’t figure out if this is due to me having too many things on my plate at a time, over committing to activities, being too busy, etc. or if it’s because I’m, plain and simple, last minute. I’ve never been much of a planner, I have a phobia of writing things down in stone. Some think I’m not so bad, others are horrified at how I live. I do believe it goes back to how I was raised. Maybe the fact that I grew up in a family of 7 has something to do with it. You could never set things in stone with 7 people. Too much chaos, too many things going on, my family just took things day by day. I guess it’s all relative to how others perceive life and how they choose to live. I, for one, prefer the laid back mentality and when it’s time to nail down that date on the calendar, I’m ok with it,…usually.

With this is mind, I last minute, decided to put up a few ornaments on my etsy site, just to see what would happen. Like, the month before Christmas. Really. If you’re going to sell Christmas-y things, the month before Christmas probably isn’t the time to go venturing into said business. But shoot, I went for it and, by complete surprise (believe me), I got an order the next day…and then another order a few days later, and then another and another. It was crazy. I was shocked and very honored. People wanted to buy my ornaments.

This is the test of a little annoying picture

I sold a handful of “Couples First Year” ornaments,…the buyer would email me with their requests for the ornament. Colors, Themes, Style,…and then I’d create it for them. I had such a fun time doing it and there were many that turned out simply adorable. I wanted to keep half of them,….even though I had no relationship with the bride and groom. Is it weird I wanted to hang “Couples First Year” ornaments on my tree,….even if I didn’t know them?

So, Christmas has come and gone,…it is now January 12th. And, although the Christmas trees are down and ornaments packed away, I thought I’d make a very last minute post for you,… Lydia style… oh yeah.

Ladybug Ornament

January 7, 2010

Right before Christmas, a friend from high school contacted me about making an ornament for her daughter.

She requested a ladybug,..since her daughter is her “ladybug”.

She told me they have a tradition in her family of exchanging ornaments on Christmas Eve.

I think I may steal her tradition,…I love the idea of exchanging ornaments each year and your child having a collection to have when they start their own families.

I had such a fun time making this,… such a cute idea!

And, I fell in love with the little wire antennas. So adorable.

Even the packaging was fun to put together,…such a cute theme of red, black, and white.

I was so sad I had to give it up,…I wanted to keep it. Hee hee,…so fun and so adorable!

Thanks for the opportunity I had to put this together for you, Kate! Hope your daughter enjoyed it!!!
