Bebe!

August 29, 2008

I’ve been really bad at writing posts in the last few weeks. I’m sorry, but I have an excuse!!! I promise!!

I’ve been torn, knowing when to announce this to the whole world through internet, but I’m going to say it now,……

I’M PREGNANT!!!

13 weeks today. It’s unbelievable how quickly babies grow…I can’t believe how defined everything is! I think my baby has my nose…so precious.

I really can’t believe it’s true. It’s scary and exciting at the same time. Mostly exciting though. I’m still not sure how much I’ll write about my little baby on this site, but I know I won’t be able to resist mentioning it every once and a while. It’s just too exciting NOT to mention!

Now, I’ve been bad at posting lately and I’d like to pull the “pregnancy card” and blame it on being tired and having no energy, whatsoever, but I really can’t blame it on that. Of course being pregnant has contributed to my lack of posting (I have been very unmotivated in the last few weeks), but really, things have just been BUSY! Between back-to-back visitors all summer long, traveling, and work,… I’ve been left with no energy for anything else. Sweet J has been doing so much to help. I have a wonderful husband.

One of the last trips we took was up to Oakland for J’s cousins baby shower (whose baby was born today, I might add!!). I thought it’d be fitting to post some of the photos I took of the stationary I made for them, which matched the invitations I designed for their shower.

Pink, pink, pink! Can you tell they were expecting a girl?!

I hand drew the design. Paul and Dayana live in the San Francisco area, so I thought it was fitting to include the bridge and cityscape behind them; also their cute little dog,…which is their “other” baby.

They wanted something that wasn’t as “baby-ish”, so I thought this was a fun way of doing pink and cutsie, but more city-chic.

The cards, with a stack of metallic-y pink envelopes, completed the package. Baby shower thank you cards…complete!

Now I need to get working on designing my babies thank you cards!

Coronado

July 31, 2008

My friend, Kyle, took this pic with my camera. He doesn’t know I’m putting this picture up, and it may be silly, since it’s my blog and usually my pictures, but it’s a pretty stinking, cool picture. And, hey!, at least I’m not claiming its mine.

This was a shot he took while a group of us were at a friends wedding on Coronado Island. It’s the other side of the island, not where the Hotel Del Coronado is, but still completely and utterly gorgeous; as you can see in this beautiful picture.

I love it. The grass reminds me of a Monet painting. Beautiful.

Stuffed Peppers

July 25, 2008

These pictures are a few weeks old, but I thought I’d post them. After flipping though my photos and spotting them, I remembered how delicious these were and I had to share them with you!!

Stuffed green peppers with mushrooms, cherry tomatoes (from our garden!), onion, garlic, feta, gruyere cheese, finely diced breadcrumbs from a leftover loaf of olive bread, and assorted seasonings.

J and I mixed them up, while cooking one of our first dinners together in our new place. After traveling so much and on top of moving, we hadn’t eaten a home cooked meal in weeks. It was wonderful to be settled into our new place and to eat fresh, warm, homey food once again!

We didn’t follow a recipe for these delectable bites,… just kind of made it up as we went. While we were preparing the mixture, I threw the halved and seeded peppers in the oven at 400 degrees for about 6 or so minutes (honestly, I can’t remember exactly how long it took, but basically until they were just tender a bit,..not too tender, since we had to stuff them and put them back in the oven for just a bit to get everything heated though).

While the peppers baked in the oven, I sauteed onions, garlic, cherry tomatoes, and mushrooms with a bit of olive oil. After they were cooked though, I transferred them to a bowl and added in some shredded gruyere cheese, feta cheese, diced olive loaf breadcrumbs, and whatever random seasonings I felt like throwing in.

We then stuffed the, now cooked to just tender, peppers with the mixture and threw them back in the oven for about 8 more minutes or until just heated though.

They were delicious! You should try them out…I highly recommend it. YUM!

How does your garden grow?

July 3, 2008

Wow,… I’ve been gone for a while. I had been so proud of myself for posting every other day, even in the midst of traveling and moving, but here I am finally making a post and it’s been 5 days!

I’m sorry,… things have just been so busy, but I am happy to say that they are beginning to calm down. We’ve moved into our new place. HOORAY! And, we’ve almost unpacked all of our boxes. Almost, that is.

One of the hardest things I’ve found in moving into our new place is figuring out how to arrange our furniture. I can’t be sure how I want things, so then I just sit and do nothing, leaving the sofa in the middle of the living room. It’s like there’s this huge commitment in my mind…once I put something somewhere, I don’t want to have to move it again. And, once you put a bookshelf where you think it belongs, you then pile it high with books and then, what happens when you decide it doesn’t look good there anymore?! It’s too heavy to move with all those books on it and I’m too lazy to take all the books out all over again to move the bookshelf.

Ahh,..what to do? You’d think I wouldn’t have this problem, being that my mother was known for constantly moving our furniture around. Switching the living room to the dining room and back…needless to say at 12 o’ clock in the morning. Ahh well,… I wish she were here on the west coast to help me arrange things. Can you please fly out here, Mom? Pretty please?

I can’t complain one bit though, we are loving our place. Did I mention there’s a lovely garden in the back? Complete with cherry tomatoes,…

a plum tree,…

and strawberries! Well,..like 5, but still!!!

Fresh herbs too! I’m very excited about this,..I’ve always dreamed of having a garden and now we have one right in our back yard!!

Freshly Baked Treats Coming Your Way!!!

May 1, 2008

Earlier this week, I had the unique opportunity to play “bakery”.

Hee hee hee… I like playing “house”, I like playing “store”, and now I like playing “bakery”. And no,… I am not 5 years old…..

I guess you could say it was a combination of “bakery” and “store”. A friend of a friend had me emailed me about a month or so ago. She had seen all of the baked treats on my blog and asked if I’d be willing to mail a few of her friends some of these freshly baked treats for their birthdays. Of course I responded to her with a big, fat YES! How fun, I thought,…and the clincher,…she’d pay me for it! So yes, I can now say I am a part-time baker. Yes, I can!

So this past week, I gathered a cup of coffee (of course!), my baking supplies, festive red and orange packaging items (her friends favorite colors), and got to work.

She requested that I make brownies (her friends favorite dessert) and then I decided to throw in some of the yummy Blondies I had posted on a few months ago.

The only tricky part was figuring out how to package everything carefully enough so that the desserts wouldn’t get smashed. I found two perfectly sized boxes that fit into my shipping box wonderfully. So with the goodies wrapped in 2 tight layers of parchment paper, I carefully arranged them in each box.

I stuffed orange and white tissue paper around each treat so that nothing would shift while traveling and then covered the top with white, orange, and silver paper shreds. What fun! I love doing little cutesy things like this!

Then I made her a little card, stuck it on the inside flap of the box, and tucked a little daisy in.

I threw in a few more styrofoam zig-zags for further reinforcement and then sent it off next day shipping at the USPS.

I’m waiting to hear back on how it shipped, but am thinking it should have been fine.

I’m telling you, I think I could do this as a living. Yes, I’d like to play “baker”/”store” for the rest of my life. It’s fun. I love baking, I love making stuff fun and cute,…therefore, I think I should do this as a job. Invitations and Baking. Yes,…I think I’d be happy with that.

So, thank you Ricci!! I loved doing this and if ANYONE would like me to send FRESHLY BAKED items to a friend or even, yourself, let me know! I’m more than willing!!
