Ruby’s 2nd Birthday: The Food

March 23, 2011

The food…

Of course there were cupcakes for the birthday girl…

We ordered Ruby’s cupcakes from the same local bakery we used for Ruby’s first birthday. Delicious cupcakes, great price, and simply cute.

And then there were the appetizers and kid friendly snacks… I’m sad I didn’t get a photo of the table fully filled with food, but this photo will have to do (thanks for snapping it, Candice!!).

For the kids there were fruit kabobs,…

watermelon butterflies (cut out by my lovely husband with a butterfly cookie cutter!),

butterfly cream cheese sugar cookies (best EVER recipe for sugar cookies,…handed down to me by my mother in law), and an assortment of goldfish crackers, honeywheat pretzel sticks, cheese sticks, pigs in a blanket, and juice boxes (all not pictured). I arranged the cocktails cups for the kids with the pretzels and goldfish, like last year, in little cupcake liners.

For the adults, we had a mixture of appetizers…simple to make, but still delicious!

Pioneer Woman’s jalapeno bacon poppers,… SO GOOD!

Pioneer Woman’s crab dip served with warm toasty bread and pita chips,…

An antipasto platter,…

and a raspberry lemonade punch for ALL!

YUM!

Thanksgiving Day

December 1, 2010

Thanksgiving Day was fun,..

Fun to set the table.

Fun to make place cards for each guest (excuse the two napkins at Grandma’s place, I was trying to figure out where to place them and I’m completely indecisive…)

Fun to create special place mats for the little girls…

Fun to see the cousins together.

Fun to cook and fun to eat!

A way to treasure that special keepsake: part II

May 16, 2010

In addition to Ruby’s birth announcements, I thought it would be nice to frame a few of the little things I created for Ruby’s 1st Birthday.

It was so fun to put this together,….

I filled the frame with a collection of things I made. The felt ladybugs that hung on the tree where we opened gifts, the invitation and envelope, cupcake toppers, and gift bag card…. I even used the clear cellophane wrapper from the gift bags for the background!

Click on the photos if you’d like to view closeups of the different sections.

Too much fun and SO sweet to hang in Ruby’s bedroom!

Ruby’s First Birthday- Food!

April 2, 2010

The food for Ruby’s 1st birthday was very simple. I always love entertaining and always love cooking for friends, but considering the circumstances in our life that week (being in the middle of a move and hosting the party at a park), I wanted to keep things mellow and stress free.

So, instead of a full out meal, I decided to go for snacks that one year olds and adults can both eat, fun treats, and of course, yummy cupcakes!

I tried to make the majority of foods match the ladybug color theme of reds, whites, and blacks. Hence the red strawberries, red grapes, and black blackberries.

One of my favorite things were the platter of animal crackers and graham crackers placed in red cupcake liners for the kids, in their own personal size! Love it!

In addition to the fruit and crackers, we had to have some treats!

Red and black licorice, red swedish fish, and an assortment of red hard candies…too cute!

And for the chocolate lovers, pretzel rods dipped in chocolate with red and white sprinkles and toffee bits. FYI- this is SUCH an easy and cute party treat! Just melt semi sweet chocolate in the microwave, dip your rod in there, and then sprinkle of the toppings while the chocolate is still warm. Let set and serve! I made mine days before the party and stored them in the fridge til we needed them. So easy and SO cute!

But, then came the cupcakes! YUM! Instead of making them, I ordered them from a local bakery here in San Diego that I am IN LOVE WITH!!

They did such a great job and for such a good deal…vanilla cupcake with a delicious ganache in the center and whipped cream icing. Oh my,….oh my…..

The food turned out to be so fun, so magical, SO STRESS FREE, and so cute! Definitely something I’d do again!
