Gobble, Gobble…

November 16, 2011

Ruby and I did a turkey craft this past Monday. We had to get a thanksgiving craft in before the holiday passes. I can’t believe we’re already approaching December…does anyone else feel these days are flying by?! I feel like it was just the summer.20111116-150207.jpg
It was pretty sweet though,…while doing our craft I explained to Ruby why we celebrate thanksgiving and the reason for giving thanks. Of course we were making a turkey craft, so she got stuck on the turkey aspect of thanksgiving. After googling a picture of a real turkey to show her what they look like and all that explanation, I think the two things my little sweetie 2 1/2 year old got out of it is that turkey’s say, “gobble, gobble” and they have “beaks”, not “noses”.

I love her,…simply love her :) .

Nails,…girltime.

August 13, 2011

Now, don’t you think I should get some sort of award for letting my TWO YEAR OLD daughter paint my nails?! Call me crazy, but…

I’m blaming it on J. It was his idea and of course he announced his idea in front of “the Rubes”. How could I say NO when she looked at me with those excited eyes and asked if she could paint my nails, “pink”!?

Luckily it came off pretty easily,…and the little streaks that are left in the corners of my nails make me smile…

P.S.- Please excuse the mismatched outfit I have going on there,…I was trying to be comfy and didn’t think through my outfit ensemble. Ruby’s outfit, on the other hand, is simply to die for! :)

A Birdhouse for Ruby

July 18, 2011

The other day Ruby and I found a paint-your-own birdhouse at Marshall’s (my most favorite store!).

I was so excited since I’d spotted the same one at our local toy store, but was able to get this one for half the price!

Ruby painted it one day, complete with hand prints (her request) and then we went to our local pet store and found some bird seed to put inside!

Filling it up….

What a sweet little craft and activity for a sweet little girl.

Ruby’s 2nd Birthday: Activities and Favors!

March 24, 2011

Is it pathetic there’s going to be four separate posts for Ruby’s birthday party? Maybe,… but I can’t bring myself to choosing only a few photos! Today’s post,….the activities and favors at the Party!

First up,…the activities…

I found these cute butterfly nets in the dollar bin at target and had to get them for the party.

We ended up borrowing a friends bubble machine and had the kids catch bubbles with their nets in the backyard.

Suprisingly, the kids LOVED it and were entertained for the entire afternoon! And, no eyes were poked out or heads whipped by the nets! Whoo hoo! HA!

I also set up a “pin the antennae on the butterfly” game. I blew up and printed out the same pattern for the butterflies I drew on Ruby’s invitation, cut out some antennae’s and stuck them on Ruby’s easel. It was a cute set up,…but we never even ended up playing the game! Maybe next year?!

A little table with crayons and “happy birthday, Ruby” coloring pages was placed in the patio area for the little artists.

The girls mainly loved them,….but the boys stuck to the nets and catching bubbles.

I also put out a big bucket of sidewalk chalk, which was another simple thing to play with for the mainly toddler crowd!

Happy Birthday, Ruby!

And then the favors…

I had SO much fun with the favors! The dollar store and Target dollar bin was KEY!

They were colorful with a fun little assortment of things inside each bucket. A butterfly suncatcher craft, butterfly sidewalk chalk, pencil, butterfly clip, flower lollipop, ringpop, a pinwheel, and stickers.

Pink butterfly buckets for the girls…

and camo green buckets for the boys!

Such, such fun!

Ruby’s Room

June 24, 2010

We now have a home. Which means I was able to put together Ruby’s room, for the final time, with no fears of having to pack it all up again for another move. Whoo hoo!

This was our third and final move since Ruby came into existence. Our first move being when I found out I was pregnant with her. Our second move to an apartment for short term living, while we hunted for a home. And our final move to our new home! Ahhh….the relief of being in a place for as long as we desire. To decorate how we choose. To nail holes wherever we like. To live. So nice.

So, my first item on the agenda was Ruby’s room. I had decorated her room before she was born, but then packed everything away when we moved the second time, knowing it wasn’t worth it to hang everything up, just to pack it back up a few months down the road.

So, here is a view of her room now. Settled. Unpacked. Mostly complete.

Play area- This is actually a closet with sliding doors. For some reason there were electrical outlets in the closet , which seemed totally random, but I ended up making use of the space turning it into another little nook, with a cute lamp, hanging lanterns (which we used at her baby shower), and alphabet cards to decorate the inside closet walls.

The sweet little measuring tape was given by J’s aunt, which we’ve already started using to record Ruby’s height! And, the precious little feet above are Ruby’s at 6 months, made at our local ceramic shop.

Another view of Ruby’s play area. The alphabet mat was given to us, as well as the glider (which is holding a blanket of mine from when I was a baby!). The artwork behind the rocking chair was done by me way back in high school. And the handprints above Ruby’s foot plaque are J’s from when he was 2 and 5 years old… his mom was AMAZING at saving things from when he was a child!

Ruby’s Dresser- This is one of my favorites! We just purchased this dresser and attached beveled mirror at an antique store while my parents were visiting last month. Before that, we had all of Ruby’s clothing in baskets. It was starting to get ridiculous, especially with her pulling them out every time I turned my back on her! Cute little stinker!! Needless to say, it’s wonderful to be able to organize her clothing in drawers. And I just love the old, shabby chic look of it, as well as the glass knobs and little girl feel. So precious!

Framed photos of sweet baby Ruby, as well as a few preggo pics of me. Gorgeous photography above the mirror was done by Ginette Sundin of Sundin Photography. Look her up! She is A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!

When I was pregnant and nesting with Ruby in my belly, I made these curtains. I love them. I love the black, white, and hot pink colors. Sweet and girly, but still not your typical pale baby pink.

I even went crazy and sewed a few pillows. The one placed in the glider (previous picture) matches the curtains and these above are fun polka dots patterns with pink shades of grosgrain ribbon sewed on. Sweet polka dot chair purchased at Pottery Barn Kids.

Ruby’s Changing Area- hooks to the left purchased on sale at Anthropologie, shelves from Aaron Brothers using the 40% off coupons, and changing table from craigslist! Her framed invitations made their debut on the wall, as well as the letters I made while pregnant with her. Cute, random trinkets given by various family and friends.

I love my baby girls room. And even if she is no longer a baby but now a toddler, I do believe she is enjoying it too!
